Ultra-realistic improvement (round-robin) on timpani hit SFZ’s:
I just created (with help of chatgpt to write the scripts) a variation of the Percussions/timpani-hit*.sfz and the samples needed by them. Basically, each note has 5 samples which are:
– the original
– the 2 adjascent notes, resampled without preserving length
– the 2 adjascent notes, resampled preserving length
The result is even better than the original!!
The two shell scripts (generate .wav files, generate .sfz files) are included in the zip file.
Hoping to maybe see this in a future version of VPO3. Best regards, and once again huge THANKS for this magnificent set of SFZ’s!!
– Éric.

Thanks Éric. I’ll have a listen and if I release another version of Virtual Playing Orchestra maybe this can make it into that release.

Hi, I’m a blind person who really likes high-quality music, and I found this sample library. So I downloaded the WAV files, but which scripts should I dowload, the standard orchestra scripts, or the performance orchestra scripts? Please reply. Thank-you.
Here’s the difference between the standard scripts and the performance scripts from the text in the section where you download the scripts:
The Standard Orchestra uses key velocity (how fast you hit a key on your MIDI controller) to control the volume. Articulations (sustain, staccato etc) are placed in different tracks or are selected via key switches. Most virtual instruments work this way.
The Performance Orchestra uses the MOD wheel to control volume (some professional sample libraries work this way). Key velocity (how fast you hit a key on your MIDI controller) selects the articulation (sustain, staccato etc) while still slightly affecting the volume. The performance .sfz file names contain the string “-PERF”.
I would recommend the Performance scripts. They might work better for you. If you play fast, you get short notes with a fast attack. If you play slow, you get longer notes with a slower attack. It means less fiddling around with multiple tracks or key switches. You can generally just record what you play and you’re done. It will sound more realistic right away.
Since you can’t see the image from the installation section, I’ve included the required directory structure below as a plain text list. Note that the “libs” directory is at the same level as the directories where the various scripts are placed:
Brass
Documentation
Keys
libs
Percussion
Strings
Vocals
Woodwinds
Hope this helps.
